Can I take voice lessons online?

Yes. Ted's Voice Academy teaches private singing and speaking lessons by video, wherever you are. The studio is in Lacey, Washington, near Olympia, and students join from across the state and well beyond it. Sessions run 60 minutes and use the Adaptive Voice Framework™, at the same rates as in-studio lessons, starting with a free 15-minute call.

Your voice travels perfectly well over a video call. Online lessons cover the same work as lessons in the studio: building breath that supports you, resonance that carries, range that opens, and expression that sounds like you.

Online lessons open this studio to you wherever you are. Students join from Seattle and Tacoma, from Spokane and Vancouver, from the Peninsula and the islands, and from well outside Washington. If the nearest voice teacher is an hour of driving away, or a time zone away, this is how we work together. The Adaptive Voice Framework shapes every session, adapting to your voice rather than asking your voice to fit a method.

What an online session holds

A full hour, the same as in studio

Sixty minutes of one-to-one coaching. We start with how your voice is feeling that week, move into the work your goals call for, and finish with something specific for you to practice.

Singing across every style

Classical, musical theater, pop, rock, barbershop, gospel, and whatever else you love to sing. Private singing lessons online cover the same ground they cover in the room.

Speaking and presentation work

Clarity, projection, pacing, and presence for professionals, educators, and leaders. Speaking coaching translates naturally to video, and the PASS Profile™ can map your communication style before we begin.

Something to carry into the week

Every session ends with a clear next step. Free tools like the Vocal Exercise Builder and Pitch Matcher give your practice structure between lessons.

Finding the setup that suits you

Every singer arrives with a different background, a different space to sing in, and different goals. Working entirely online suits some people. Others within reach of the Lacey studio come in some weeks and join by video on others. Some start one way and shift as their schedule changes.

We work that out together on the free 15-minute discovery call. You tell me what you are hoping to build and how your week looks, I listen, and between us we settle on the rhythm that fits. Lessons run over Zoom, Google Meet, or FarPlay, and we pick whichever suits you on that same call. The conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

Getting set up

Each guide below is one page you can print or keep open on screen. Every one of them starts with the same tip, because it does more for your sound than anything else: wear wired headphones.

Zoom

Mac, Windows, tablet, phone

The most familiar option, and it runs on almost anything. The guide covers the two settings that keep a singing voice intact.

Google Meet

Mac, Windows, tablet, phone

Runs in a browser, so there is nothing to install on a computer. A Gmail address is all the account you need.

FarPlay

Mac, Windows, Linux · computer only

Built for musicians. It carries your voice with far less delay and without the smoothing other platforms apply, so we can sing and play together in time. Around 500 miles apart on wired Ethernet, that is roughly 15 to 25 milliseconds one way. Free for you, with no account needed.

A phone works when it is what you have, and a laptop or tablet gives your voice more room to come through. FarPlay is the exception: it runs on computers only for now, so we use Zoom or Google Meet when a computer is out of reach.

Common questions about online lessons

What do lessons run on?

Zoom, Google Meet, or FarPlay, whichever suits you. FarPlay is built for musicians and keeps the audio delay low, which some singers prefer. We choose together on the discovery call, and you can change your mind later.

Do online voice lessons actually work?

Yes. I teach singing and speaking online the same way I teach in the studio, using the Adaptive Voice Framework to build breath, resonance, range, and expression. We listen together, I hear what your voice is doing, and you leave each session with something specific to practice.

How long is an online lesson, and what does it cost?

Sessions are 60 minutes, the same length and the same rates as lessons in the studio. Monthly plans start at $320 a month, lesson packages run $75 to $85 per lesson, and a single session is $100. Every student starts with a free 15-minute discovery call.

Do you teach students outside Washington?

Yes, regularly. Online lessons are open to you wherever you are. My studio is in Lacey, Washington, near Olympia, so students nearby often come in person, and everyone else works with me by video.

Can I switch between online and in-person lessons?

Yes. Mixing the two works well for students within reach of the studio: some weeks in Lacey, other weeks by video. We set up whatever rhythm suits your schedule.

Do you teach speaking online as well as singing?

Yes. Speaking and presentation coaching works well online, and the PASS Profile communication assessment is available to map your natural speaking style before we begin.
